Distinguished Visiting Professor Leroy Gardner Presents at Tsinghua University’s Department of Civil Engineering
On October 20th, 2023, Distinguished Visiting Professor Leroy Gardner, a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, and Professor of Structural Engineering at Imperial College London, visited Tsinghua University’s, Department of Civil Engineering. He presented a lecture titled "Metal 3D Printing in Structural Engineering: Advances and Opportunities" in the He Shanheng Building, chaired by Associate Professor Wang Facheng.
Metal Additive Manufacturing (AM), also known as metal 3D printing, enables the production of intricate parts, overcoming traditional molding design constraints, reducing manufacturing time, and facilitating automated and decentralized production. While widely adopted in industries such as medicine, automotive, and aerospace, its application in construction is increasingly gaining attention. During the lecture, Professor Leroy Gardner shared experimental and numerical studies on metal 3D printing and discussed trends, engaging in insightful discussions with attending faculty and students. His primary research interests encompass metal additive manufacturing, advanced analysis and design, stainless steel, high-strength steel, cold-formed steel, and aluminum alloy structures.
