The team led by Professor Lu Xinzheng was awared the first prize in the CIC Construction Innovation Award 2022 by the Hong Kong Construction Industry Council
On December 13th, 2022 the Hong Kong Construction Industry Council (CIC) Innovation Award 2022 honored the team led by Professor Lu Xinzheng with the first prize in the international category with their work titled "Intelligent Generative Design for Building Structures." Their achievement was on a technical content video presentation during the preliminary round and a final defense during the competition.
Professor Lu Xinzheng's team was honored with the "Jury’s Special Commendation Gold Award” at the 48th Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions on May 9th, 2023, for their invention
"Intelligent Generative Design for Building Structures." This innovation revolutionizes architectural structural design by integrating Generative Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI), capabilities to propose a “data-mechanics-knowledge” collaborative learning approach. The method combines advanced AI technologies, including GANs, GNNs, and Attention mechanisms, with architectural structural design requirements. The team developed the intelligent design system ai-structure.com, compatible with mainstream structural design software, boosting the efficiency of architectural structural scheme design by over10 times and introducing a new, design paradigm.
To date, the project has secured 15 invention patents, published over 10 academic papers, and the intelligent design system developed has been adopted by hundreds of engineers across over 40 design firms.
